Remembering a loved one that has passed is a very individual thing. Each of us has a diverse range of relationships in our world, from the immediate family to friends and colleagues. Modern technology seems to have made the world smaller, and thanks to social media we seem to know people all over the globe. It is nice to be able to collect friends and family together to remember a loved one. It is because of this desire, the concept of memorial websites was created.

What is a Memorial Website?

Memorial websites offer space for family and friends to create a legacy page for the deceased. Most provide free areas, and some have paid plans if you want to add extra functionality. A page is designed for the person. Anyone that knew them can come and share their memories and tell stories. It is an excellent way for people to learn more about the person. Some may only have known them as a work colleague, and family can get an insight on how they were at work, in time not spent with them. The memorial page can also double as a virtual chapel. Visitors can light virtual candles, add music that they associated with the person, and add photos and videos. This personalisation is lovely for the family. Finally, most memorial pages also allow you to create fundraisers. You can ask for donations to support a charity that may have been important to the deceased or a project they were involved in.

Where Can You Get A Tribute Page?

There are lots of memorial websites now offering to host tribute pages for people. Much Loved is a beautiful site that has a free policy. You can also create a funeral notice on the page if that helps you make everyone aware of when the service is taking place. Once you have your page, you will by default have created a unique web address (URL), and you can share this via email, social media or any other channel you wish. Forever Missed is another such site, but they seem to offer fewer features without cost. It depends on what sort of plan you are looking for, so do be sure to look around and see what is on offer. Be wary of being asked to pay too much because there are lots of sites that are not charging.

Do We Have To?

Of course, you do not have to set up these online memorials, it depends on the person and how you feel. It is lovely if you have friends and family across the globe. Sometimes their location means some of them will not be able to get back for the funeral. If you are not confident in using the internet, it could also be a lovely thing to ask a younger family member to do. It can be easy for young people to feel left out and bewildered when someone passes. This could be a great way to help them grieve while setting up the page to receive some wonderful shared memories.
